Go Trout Fishing
Trout fishing is by far one of my favorite types of fishing. I have been trout fishing the many streams, lakes and ponds of PA for as long as I can remember and can think of nothing Id rather be doing than wading a swiftly moving stream while hunting down cautious brown, rainbow and native trout.
There are many different ways to catch trout and all have one thing in common, they all require patience and an understanding of the trout. To become a successful trout fisherman you need to learn and understand their environment, which can be difficult because of the many different waters and environments they can be found. For instance fishing a well stocked trout pond is very different from fishing a secluded native trout stream.
Trout fishing is different than many other types of fishing, like bass fishing for example, which I also love. Trout fishing has been woven into the fabric of our society and the skills needed to catch them have been passed down through the generations. Trout fishing unlike many other types of fishing symbolizes something much more than a day out on the water catching fish!
I will be covering many trout fishing topics on GoTroutFishing.net, the trout fishing topics I cover will hopefully help you understand trout fishing better and also help you to become a better trout angler.
Successful Trout Fishing
If your new to trout fishing you may be wondering how so many other anglers catch so many trout when they go out fishing. It is really quite simple experience, knowledge and attitude. Many hard core trout anglers have been fishing trout for decades, they over the years learn how to read the water and how to determine what flys, spinners or baits to throw and where to place them.
I know many anglers that have become frustrated with trout fishing because at times they seem impossible to catch, but like anything else it takes time and dedication to become good at trout fishing. I will give you information that will help you become better, but don’t mistake GoTroutFishing as the magic bullet, to become good at trout fishing you need much more than a website, you need to get out there and go trout fishing! So when your done here, grab your gear and head out to your favorite body of water to do some trout fishing.
Trout Fishing Gear
To catch trout you don’t need the latest or the greatest trout fishing gear on the market, but you do need fishing gear that is suitable for catching them. For instance using a 6′ heavy action spinning rod on a small mountain stream, loaded with 12′ test line just wont cut it. Generally you want to go light all around. If your using a spinning outfit a ultra light rod and reel spooled with some decent 4 lb test line will work in most trout fishing situations, unless of course your fishing for lake trout. You wont have to spend allot to get the trout fishing gear your need, you can get yourself set up with a pretty decent outfit for less than $100, if your more serious about trout fishing you will find yourself spending much more than that.
Fly fishing gear is no different, you can get yourself set up with a functional trout fishing outfit for less than $100, though it is not uncommon to here a seasoned fly fisherman talk about the thousands he or she has spend on their fly fishing gear. It is all a matter of preference and need, nothing more and nothing less. Anyone that tells you you have to spend $600 on a fly rod just to catch trout is full of BS!
Trout Habitat
Trout can be found in many types of water across the country, but most generally can be found in cool, clean waters. Trout can be found in streams, rivers, lakes and spring fed ponds, any body of water that has a source of cool clean water moving into it and exiting it can sustain a healthy population of trout.
Trout in streams can be found lurking in pools and eddies, or along riffles and under cuts, which is why it is so important for you to learn how to read the water. Once you learn to read the water and associate different signatures with trout you will begin to catch trout more often.
